I have a selection of quality student violins for sale/rent in sizes 1/8 to 4/4. Currently available violins are posted in order of size (decreasing). If you are looking for a size not listed, please contact me as inventory changes regularly or I might know of a good-quality used violin for sale elsewhere.

If you decide to purchase a violin from me later on, the damage deposit and a portion of the rental fees can be credited to a future purchase.

Used violins

1911 J.A. Baader violin, “large” 3/4 size

20180601_183809.jpg

This antique violin comes from the J.A. Baader violin workshop in Mittenwald, Germany. Maker’s mark indicates it was completed in 1911. There is an old repair on the body as seen on the lower right, but this doesn’t affect sound or playability. This violin has a lovely warm sound not usually found in a fractional size. It’s a slightly odd size, a bit bigger than a standard factory-built 3/4 you would get today but not quite a 7/8.

Comes with case, all new Thomastik Dominant strings, new tailpiece with built-in finetuners and new Cadenza fibreglass bow.

Sale price pending appraisal; Rental $20/month plus $100 damage deposit

1/2 size, made in West Germany

20180601_183246.jpg

1/2 size violin, no maker’s mark other than “Made in West Germany”, which places it between 1949 and 1990. It has a beautiful sound for a fractional size and is in excellent condition. Comes with case, bow, all new strings and new tailpiece with finetuners.

$599.99; Rental $20/month plus $100 damage deposit

I have to say, this is an excellent violin for the price. And I speak from experience, I own the SVA-500 Viola, which is the same model line but for viola. It has warm, mellow tones and sings very well for such an affordable instrument. Solid spruce top, solid flamed maple back and sides. African ebony fittings. D’Addario Prelude strings and J.B. LaSalle bow.

1/4 and 1/2 Cremona Novice series SV-130

Honestly, I wish these had been around when I was a kid. I’m so in love with this little violin! Despite looking like a toy, this is a working violin! Good entry-level model. Solid spruce top, solid maple back and sides. Fittings are ebonized hardwood. D’addario Prelude strings and Anton Breton bow.
